A question that several people have asked about is if existing Address Books in GroupWise can be brought into Outlook. This is possible and the steps are given below. Do note, however, that these steps only work on a Windows computer. If you are using GroupWise on a Mac the Export command mentioned in the steps does not exist. If you normally use a Macintosh computer you can borrow another user’s PC and perform the steps listed or contact me for assistance.
Before exporting an Address Book it might be a good idea to look through it to see if there are any names you need to remove. To remove a name click on the name and choose Delete from the Edit menu.
Exporting an Address Book from GroupWise
1. From the main GroupWise screen click on the Address Book button
2. Your existing Address Books will appear on the left side of the screen. Besides the Novell GroupWise Address Book there should be one with your name, one labeled Frequent Contacts and perhaps others if you have created additional Address Books.
3. Click once on the Address Book you wish to export (the contents of the Address Book will appear on the right side of the screen)
4. From the File menu choose Export…
5. Choose Entire Address Book…
6. In the Address Book Export window you have several important things to do
- Note in the Save In box where your Address Book will be saved (the Desktop may be a handy spot)
- Click on the drop down menu next to Save As Type and choose vCard Addresses
- Type in a name for your Address Book and click the Save button
7. You can repeat these steps for additional Address Books if you have any
8. Close the Address Book window
